About Dr. Gilley
Bruce Gilley is a Professor of Political Science. His research centers on democracy, legitimacy, public policy, and global politics, and he is a specialist on the comparative politics of China and Asia. He is the author of five university-press books, including The Nature of Asian Politics (2014) and The Right to Rule: How States Win and Lose Legitimacy (2009) in addition to several co-edited volumes. His articles have appeared in Foreign Affairs, Comparative Political Studies, Environmental Politics, Politics and Policy, Democratization, and the European Journal of Political Research. Recent peer-reviewed articles include “Are Pay Equity Policies Justified?” (Journal of Libertarian Studies, 2023) and “Will Malaysia Become an Active Middle Power?” (Australian Journal of International Affairs, 2024).
