Shawn Smallman has expertise in the history of HIV/AIDS, conspiracy theories & infectious diseases, and digital tools & public policy during pandemics.
Smallman wrote a history of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Latin America, an experience which led to his interest in conspiracy theories related to infectious diseases. More recently, his fieldwork has focused on infectious diseases and public policy, including wet markets in Hong Kong and contact tracing apps in Taiwan.
