The Center for Life in Extreme Environments opened in July 2011 as part of the newly renovated Science and Research Teaching Center (SRTC) at Portland State University

The 11,000 square facility houses shared laboratory space, a large aquatic facility capable of rearing cold water fishes, offices, teaching space, and several shared equipment spaces used for imaging, microscopy, DNA/RNA processing, and tissue culture.

This new research center made possible in part a $1.15 million dollar grant from the National Science Foundation obtained by CLEE faculty and also by the contributions of several generous donors.
