BUILD EXITO and State of Oregon Sponsor 3-Day Research Academy

In June 2022, BUILD EXITO hosted the Summer Research Academy (SRA). We partnered with PSU programs LSAMP, McNair, Eagles, the School of Public Health, and the Honors College to provide students an opportunity to learn more about how they can get involved with research at the undergraduate level at PSU and other universities!

Historically, SRA served as an orientation for incoming BUILD EXITO scholars but this year’s  event was open to all students at PSU as well as those at our community college partners and the University of Guam. The three-day, in-person event was held on campus in June with over 150 students in attendance! The goals of the SRA were for participants to improve their understanding of research, increase their awareness of research opportunities, meet professionals, and learn about career paths, professional development opportunities, and other events related to research.

Students heard from various researchers, current students, and program alumni. Students attended concurrent sessions to learn more about partner programs and how to apply. Other sessions covered topics like “A Day in the Life of a Researcher,” “Exploring and Developing Research Interests,” and “Introduction to Poster and Oral Research Presentations.”

Shoutout to the many staff, faculty, and alumni who helped make SRA 2022 a success. The BUILD EXITO team wouldn’t have been able to do it without them! Check out our SRA Google Site to learn more about our program and our partner programs.

The event was sponsored by BUILD EXITO and the State of Oregon: Higher Education Coordinating Commission. H.E.C.C. envisions a future in which all Oregonians—and especially those whom our systems have underserved and marginalized—benefit from the transformational power of high-quality postsecondary education and training. H.E.C.C’s College Access Program (CAP) was an investment from the state legislature to invest in five college outreach and support programs.
