About the PSU Innovation Challenge
The PSU Innovation Challenge is a student-focused innovation and prototype competition designed to help Portland State University students turn ideas into startups.
Bringing together students from across disciplines, the program challenges teams to address pressing environmental and social issues through design thinking, business modeling, market research, and experiential education. Over the course of 10 weeks, participants receive mentorship, coaching, and grant funding to develop their ideas and bring their concepts to life.
The program culminates in a live pitch competition and exhibition, where finalist teams present their solutions to a panel of judges and the broader Portland community.
Teams competing with a physical prototype are eligible for the 'Invention Track,' receiving an additional grant. The top team in the invention track earns the opportunity to represent PSU in the statewide InventOR Collegiate Challenge, continuing their journey from idea to impact.
Supported by the
PGE Foundation, the PSU Innovation Challenge reflects a shared commitment to student-led innovation and entrepreneurship, and the development of practical solutions for a more sustainable and equitable future.
The PSU Innovation Challenge is more than a competition—it is a launchpad for students to explore what’s possible when creativity, entrepreneurship, and purpose come together.
