After a devastating brain injury, special education teacher Emily Cadiz found herself largely unable to speak and process language. But one day, she decided to try the piano again, and the classically trained singer discovered a lifeline -- a connection to her former self. As part of her healing journey, Cadiz applied to PSU's School of Music & Theater, graduating with an M.A. in Music in 2020. KGW spotlighted Emily for the innovative, musical preschool curriculum she has created: Finnegan the Singing Dragon.

Music helped Emily heal from her injury, which was a tremendously challenging setback in her life. Through her studies in PSU's School of Music & Theater, she eventually transformed that setback into motivation with a desire to help others by combining her love of teaching and music in a new, engaging curriculum.
