Emeritus-Emerita Review Cycles

Faculty may apply for the Emeritus/Emerita rank through the Promotion and Tenure procedures available on the Office of Academic Affairs website.

Tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty are eligible to apply for emeritus status (Faculty Senate Final Report, May 10, 2016) and should follow the regular promotion and tenure cycle or the November-December cycle, which immediately follows the regular cycle (strictly for emeritus applications).

All applications for emeritus/a review are due to the review committee the cycle BEFORE the faculty member’s retirement effective date.

First Friday of November
November-December Emeritus Cycle rank effective January 1
Deans submit recommendations and files to the Provost using the Dean’s Checklist for organizing materials.
First Friday of February
Regular P&T Cycle rank effective July 1
Deans submit recommendations and files to the Provost using the Dean’s Checklist for organizing materials.

Emeritus-Emerita Benefits

  • Emeritus ID Card: Take the Emeritus award letter to ID Card Services along with government-issued photo identification to receive an Emeritus ID Card.
  • PSU Library privileges
  • Non-transferable tuition assistance
  • Free parking permit request form
    • Only one active permit may be issued per requesting emeritus member and may be used by the emeritus and their spouse/domestic partner.
  • Campus Recreation $25/30-day membership
  • Office space (upon availability and department discretion)
  • Emeritus Faculty, as officially denoted in banner, are eligible for a standard OIT account. Contact the department's HR Partner to learn more.
