CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Faculty-in-Residence Fellows to Support GE Transition
The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Student Success invites applications for three Faculty-in-Residence (FIR) fellows to support the implementation of PSU's new GE program, with a particular emphasis on the Phase 1 Transition Plan approved on October 19 by the Faculty Senate. GE Phase 1 implements a modified First-Year Experience: for first-time students, this entails a First-Year Seminar, WR121Z, and a Quantitative Literacy course; for transfer students, a Transfer Seminar.
In partnership with OAA and OAI, the Faculty-in-Residence (FIR) will provide curricular oversight for the GE program and pedagogical guidance for faculty teaching new GE courses. Depending on the FIR (First-Year Experience, Writing, or Quantitative Literacy), this might include providing curricula or curricular pieces, course shells or shell options, and support for teaching in multiple modalities. During winter term 2027, FIRs will work with OAI to develop course shells or templates aligned with Faculty Senate-approved Learning Outcomes and the learning needs of our student population. During spring term 2027, workshops and/or learning communities to support faculty will be offered. FIRs will either run these workshops or help identify faculty who will do so. Each FIR will be granted course release (3 course releases during AY 2026-27, 4 course releases during AY 2027-28) OAA will provide the home department the equivalent replacement resources for any courses that are replaced at the unit’s adjunct rate. The term of the position is January 1, 2027 - June 15, 2028. FIRs are open to tenured faculty at PSU.

A review committee will evaluate applications to check for essential criteria (tenured faculty, teaching experience in the area of the FIR, leadership experience, demonstrated understanding of the needs of PSU students) and assess candidates based on their potential to: work collaboratively with OAI, lead faculty groups effectively, contribute to development of pedagogical materials, canvas shells and/or syllabi templates, and prepare instructors to implement their curriculum.
