Non-Tenure Track Faculty (NTTF) Awards

The Excellence Awards for Non-Tenure Track Instructional Faculty, first established in 2024, was created to recognize and honor the outstanding contributions to Portland State University of our NTTF Instructional faculty. The University will recognize one NTTF Instructional faculty member each year and the recipient will receive a taxable honorarium. Faculty, staff, and students are invited to submit nominations for the award.

Who Can Be Nominated?

  • The nominee must be employed as a Non-Tenure Track Instructional Faculty (0.50 FTE or above) member at Portland State University during the academic year of the nomination. Although continuous appointment is not required for nomination nor selection, this award has been created to honor faculty with many years of dedication to excellence in teaching. 
  • The nominee must not have received the Excellence Award for Non-Tenure Track Instructional Faculty in the last three years.

Who Can Submit a Nomination?
Nominations may be submitted by a dean, associate dean, chair, chair-equivalent, program director, other administrator, faculty colleague, or student with access to information regarding the nominee’s teaching excellence. Self-nominations will not be considered.

Nomination Process:

Nominations must include:

  • A  Nomination Google Form submission.
  • A substantive letter of nomination addressing the nominee’s contributions to the school or college in which they work and address exceptional teaching that is effective, inclusive, innovative, and/or research-informed.
  • The nominee’s current CV.

Nominations may include: 

  • Letters of support from peers, current and past students, or community members.

Selection Process:

In this initial year, the award recipient will be chosen by a selection committee composed of administrators and faculty appointed by the schools and colleges and approved by the Provost. In subsequent years, the selection committee will include past award winners. 

Nomination materials for all Excellence Awards are to be submitted to excellence-awards@pdx.edu by the due dates listed below. Nomination materials will include a Nomination Google Form submission. All applications that are complete and submitted by the second Friday in February (February 14, 2025) will be considered eligible for review.

Note the following deadlines for 2025:
