Academic Excellence Award for Adjunct Faculty

The PSUFA-AFT Academic Excellence Awards for Adjunct Faculty was created to recognize and honor the outstanding contributions of Portland State University adjuncts. The University will recognize two Adjunct faculty members for academic excellence in teaching or scholarship and the recipients will each receive a $1,000 taxable honorarium. Faculty, staff and students are invited to submit nominations for the Adjunct Academic Excellence Awards, established in 2017.

Who Can Be Nominated?

  • The nominee must be employed as a part-time faculty (0.49 FTE or less) member at Portland State University, and be a member of the PSUFA-AFT collective bargaining unit during the academic year of the nomination. 
  • The nominee must not have received the Adjunct Faculty Award in the last five years (effective 2018-19).

Who Can Submit a Nomination?
Nominations may be submitted by a dean, associate dean, chair, chair-equivalent, program director, other administrator, faculty colleague, or student with access to information regarding the nominee’s teaching and/or research/scholarship excellence. Self-nominations will not be considered.

Nomination Process:

Nominations must include:

  • A Nomination Google Form submission
  • A substantive letter of nomination addressing the nominee’s contributions to the school or college in which they work and to the community, and the quality of their instruction and/or research/scholarship.
  • The nominee’s current CV.

Nominations may include: 

  • Letters of support from students or community members.
  • Evidence of teaching and/or research/scholarship excellence.

Nomination materials for all Excellence Awards are to be submitted to excellence-awards@pdx.edu by the due dates listed below. Nomination materials will include a Nomination Google Form submission. All applications that are complete and submitted by the second Friday in February (February 9, 2024) will be considered eligible for review.
