Berrin Erdogan, the Cameron Professor of Management and Leadership and the Express Employment Professionals Professor in the School of Business at Portland State University (PSU), has established a global reputation for her work in the areas of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and since joining PSU in 2002, has become a leading expert on factors influencing employee well being, effectiveness, and retention. Her research specifically explores how leadership and workplace relationships shape the employee experience, with a globally recognized focus on the complexities and consequences of employee overqualification.
Professor Erdogan’s scholarship includes over 80 journal articles and book chapters, and she has co-authored several foundational textbooks, including Organizational Behavior, Principles of Management, and Human Resource Management, which are widely adopted in universities around the world. Her leadership in the field is further evidenced by her tenure as Editor-in-Chief of Personnel Psychology (2020–2022) and her elected status as a Fellow of both the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS). She is consistently ranked in the top 2% of the most-cited researchers worldwide by Elsevier and Stanford University.
Her research has a significant global footprint, involving organizational partners in the US, Turkey, UK, China, and Australia, among others. Dedicated to practical impact, she works with organizations to improve employee well-being and retention. She has served as a Fulbright Specialist, and delivered invited talks across five continents.
At PSU, Professor Erdogan is a devoted educator and recipient of the Innovation in Teaching Excellence Award within the School of Business. She excels at bridging rigorous theory with practical application and finds great reward in supporting and maintaining connections with her students throughout their careers.
