Portland State Veteran Student Services

Consisting of the Certification Office and the Veterans Resource Center, PSU’s Veterans Services aims to assist student veterans in processing and certifying VA or DoD education benefits as well as offering other resources and support to veterans, service members, and their families.

Portland State Veterans Resource Center

The Veterans Resource Center is a place where student veterans, service members, and their families can go for support with transitioning to student life and to connect with others. They also assist the faculty and administration in understanding the unique cultural differences of the student veteran population.

VA Portland LGBT Veterans

The Portland VA strives to provide culturally competent care to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) veterans. The Portland VA offers LGBT affirmative mental health care, support groups, hormone therapy, pre- and post-care for gender confirmation surgery, and voice retraining therapy. The Portland VA also has its own LGBT Veteran Care Coordinator.

VA Portland Healthcare System

The Portland VA offers health care services to veterans residing in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Learn more about what services are available.

VA Portland Military Sexual Trauma

Sexual harassment and sexual assault in the military, known as Military Sexual Trauma (MST), are unfortunately common experiences for many service members and veterans regardless of sex or gender identity. The Portland VA has its own MST Coordinator to assist veterans with MST-related issues.

Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs LGBTQ Veterans 

The State of Oregon has its own LGBTQ Veterans Coordinator. The State of Oregon’s LGBTQ Veteran Services assists LGBTQ veterans upgrading their discharge status if they were given an other-than-honorable discharge under the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy as well as correcting military records.

Portland Vet Center

Vet Centers are community based mental health treatment centers run by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. They serve combat veterans and veterans who have experienced military sexual trauma. The Portland Vet Center hosts an LGBT Drop-In Group on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month at the Q Center in Portland.

Portland VA Resource and Referral Center

The Portland VA Community Resource and Referral Center assists veterans who are houseless or at risk of becoming houseless.

Transgender American Veterans Association

The Transgender American Veterans Association advocates on behalf of Transgender veterans to ensure that they receive appropriate medical care from the Veterans Health Administration.
