Creating a Legacy of Engagement
National Policy Consensus Center (NPCC) continues to grow and to gain statewide and national recognition through its effectiveness resolving many high-profile issues and contributing to the scholarship around developing collaborative forms of governance. With all the divisiveness in the world, there is an urgent need for NPCC programs like Oregon Consensus and Oregon Solutions that bring together community members, government decision-makers, and businesses to find new approaches to contentious public issues and implement community based solutions. Public policies are made stronger when the range of voices impacted by these decisions are engaged to provide input through NPCC’s Oregon Kitchen Table. Now more than ever, collaborative public policy-making promises a path forward when motivations seemingly don’t align.
Retiring NPCC Director, Laurel Singer, and Former Oregon Consensus Director, Elaine Hallmark, are joining forces to create a multi-donor endowment in the Portland State University Foundation called the NPCC Endowment for Collaborative Governance and Consensus Building.
Funds generated by this endowment will be used at the NPCC director's discretion in collaboration with the NPCC Program Directors, with priority given to:
✓ support participation by stakeholders who might not otherwise be able to engage in the process (e.g. stipends for community member participation)
✓ advance the scholarship and research in the field of collaborative governance, public policy dispute resolution and consensus-building (e.g., faculty & visiting scholar support; student support, including scholarships and research assistantships)
✓ support the assessment and convening of projects initiated by tribal entities and non-governmental entities (e.g., pro bono assessments & facilitation of collaborative processes)
