Emergency Management

The Campus Public Safety Office is responsible for providing physical security services to Portland State University and to work closely with the University to provide a safe and healthy community for learning.

Our Emergency Management Mission: to safeguard the education environment of Portland State University through the application of a comprehensive emergency management program of mitigation and prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.

Training

Portland State University began training its first responders, key facilities personnel, and administrators in the Incident Command System (ICS) in the summer of 2006. The ICS structure, the management component of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), has been adopted nation-wide for use during emergencies and disasters.

Bryant Haley (Emergency Management Coordinator) provides training to familiarize the PSU community with: The Incident Command System (ICS), National Incident Management System (NIMS), & the National Response Framework (NRF). Each of these tenets focuses on how agencies (public & private) work together before, during, and after an emergency.

All personnel in a leadership role (administrators, faculty, staff, student leaders, etc) are encouraged to become familiar with ICS, NIMS, & NRF.

Training is approximately one hour in length. Please email emucpso@pdx.edu with interest and requests.

Please refer to www.fema.gov to learn more about ICS and NIMS.
