A VOICE FOR EQUITY (NEWSAGE PRESS 2022)

Book Launch Event

The Center for Women’s Leadership invites you to join us in celebrating the history-making leadership of Governor Barabra Roberts and the release of her new book, A Voice for Equity, on April 16th, 2022, at 1:00 pm.

A Voice for Equity is a collection of twenty-two of Roberts's compelling speeches that span her years as a public servant, including her term as the 34th Governor of Oregon. The topics of her speeches include disability rights, women's rights, voting rights, LGBTQ rights, children's rights, death education and grieving, the spotted owl and Oregon's forest plan, protection of public lands, and more.

GOVERNOR BARBARA ROBERTS

Governor Barbara Roberts has been advocating for equity since the first time she spoke up for her autistic son’s educational rights while attending a local school board meeting. This began her career as a public speaker, leading to her political work for more than fifty years. Over the years she has been speaking out as a strong advocate for numerous causes; disability rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, environmental concerns, death with dignity rights, equality and respect for all, and more.

Today at 85 years old, Roberts continues to speak publicly, passionately, a voice for equity, whether at keynote speeches, commencement addresses, political rallies and endorsements for candidates and issues, leadership conferences, Ted X presentations, or any other gathering rallying for fairness and insight.

A Special Women's History Month Event, Intersectionality & Resilience: Healing in the Midst of the Storm.

We are living in a unique and challenging time, with the crossings of a worldwide pandemic and an outcry centering around race relations. Making efforts towards fostering inclusion and eliminating discrimination in workplaces -- in a strategic and methodical way, is more urgent now than ever.

A facilitated conversation, followed by Q&A. The session focused on intersectionality and resilience, providing practical ways to begin the journey of healing while simultaneously living in the midst of societal unrest. Participants will work to understand intersectionality by reflecting on the complexities of individuals' lived experiences, identifying personal resilience practices that are best suited for their unique factors, and learning how to find calm in the midst of chaos.

Core topics in the session:

  • Navigate the “always on” societal expectations
  • Find calm and perspective in the midst of a challenging situation
  • Pursue their personal resilience journey
