LEARNING CENTER RESOURCES

The Learning Center is a friendly space where students can:

  • meet with a tutor
  • practice for the TOEFL, IELTS, and other tests
  • type and print assignments
  • watch videos and movies
  • listen to audio recordings
  • scan and print documents
  • borrow entertaining books and movies
  • check out textbooks and other learning materials
  • surf the internet
  • check email

International students and scholars at PSU from around the world are welcome in the Learning Center!

We offer high-quality English language services in an intercultural learning environment. We provide individualized English learning opportunities for students in levels PEP-5, the graduate track and the PSU Pathway Program.
 
We also partner with PSU academic departments to offer English language tutoring to PSU multilingual students.

Learning Center Tutoring

We offer FREE English-language tutoring in the IELP Learning Center to all students who are taking IELP classes. Our tutors help students with grammar, writing, reading, pronunciation, listening in English, presentation skills, TOEFL (paper-based or iBT), and IELTS preparation.

Computer Lab

The Learning Center has its own computer lab where students can work on class assignments, surf the internet, practice presentations, or consult with a tutor.

Multipurpose Room

Students needing some extra space and privacy to get things done will find this room a good practical resource. Use the multipurpose room to study in groups, take practice TOEFL and IELTS tests, or videotape and watch yourself giving presentations. Reserve this room at the Learning Center reception desk.

Conversation Partner Program

The IELP provides a variety of opportunities for students to practice and improve their English skills outside the classroom. The Learning Center offers conversation practice which takes place in groups or one-on-one sessions for a more casual, friendly approach to English-speaking practice.

Student Library

Come to the quiet and cozy Student Library to study, print an assignment, search on the computer for fun things to do in Portland, borrow books to read, or use our testing guides for the TOEFL and IELTS exams.

Meet Our Learning Center Lab Assistants

Some of our lab assistants are former IELP students who now take classes at PSU. They not only understand the ups and downs of progressing through the program, but are also encouraging, approachable, and willing to help navigate Learning Center resources.
