Dr. Tien James joined The School of Business at Portland State University in Management in 2004 after transitioning out of the field of medicine. She teaches a mixture of face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online undergraduate courses, including: Organizational Design and Change, Team Processes, and Business Environment. Tien is the Faculty Director of the Business Honors Program.
Prior to teaching, Tien practiced medicine as a Family Physician from 1991 to 1999 at a rural health clinic in mid-Missouri, and then served as co-owner and Office Manager of her medical practice in the Florida Keys from 1999-2002. In 2002, she relocated to Oregon and made the decision to leave medicine and start a new career.
