BA399 - CAREER JUMPSTART

(Offered as a combined 4cr course - in Fall 2023 and Winter 2024)

 

BA 399: Career Jumpstart Part 1

Career Jumpstart Part 1 is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to prepare them for their future careers. Through a combination of video lectures, online resources, and assignments, students will learn the importance of personal branding/storytelling, identify potential career paths, and develop the skills and experiences necessary to achieve their goals. Topics covered in this course include Self-Reflection: Students will identify and articulate their strengths, values, interests, and career goals in a compelling elevator pitch. Professional Development: Students will learn how to develop and nurture a professional network and create a polished resume and cover letter. Career Exploration: Students will explore different career paths and industries, and research job market trends and salary expectations. Goal Setting and Planning: Students will learn how to set SMART goals and create action plans to achieve them. BA 399: Career Jumpstart Part 2

Career Jumpstart Part 2 is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to prepare them for their future careers. Through a combination of video lectures, online resources, and assignments, students will learn how to develop the skills and experiences necessary to achieve their goals. Topics covered in this course include Professional Development: Students will learn how to conduct interviews and salary negotiations with confidence. They will also learn how to build their online presence through LinkedIn and leverage the platform. Career Exploration: Students will learn how to evaluate job postings and requirements and create an effective job search strategy. Professionalism: Students will learn how to successfully launch into their careers and navigate those first few crucial months. Practicum for Credit for Undergraduate Students

If you have an existing job and would like to earn academic credit for your professional experience, the online practicum class may be for you. You must complete a special project/stretch assignment at your place of employment that is applicable to your major and takes an extra 10 hours/week (throughout the term) above and beyond your standard job duties. The practicum is offered as MGMT 409 (1-4cr, pass/no pass only).
