Janet is a Finance faculty in the School of Business at Portland State and currently serves as the Finance Area Director. She taught extensively in the University of Oregon Executive MBA program and previously served on the faculty of Washington State University. Prior to her move to academia, she was engaged as an applied energy economist for an international engineering consulting firm.

At PSU, Janet teaches Intermediate Financial, Management and Valuation in the undergraduate program, Financial Management, Strategic Financial Management and the Business Capstone in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program and Master of Science in Finance (MSF) program. She is the lead faculty member for the France International Experience in the MBA program.

Dr. Hamilton is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and has served in several
capacities on the CFA Society of Portland (CFAP) Board of Directors, including
President.  In conjunction with the CFAP Board, she developed and taught an applied Portfolio Management class that manages the funds of the local CFA Society. Portland State students continue to this day to actively manage these funds. She remains active in the business community and is especially grateful to be associated with outstanding organizations.

Professor Hamilton’s current research interests revolve around the relationship between ESG characteristics and firm performance.  Her research is interdisciplinary and has been published in various outlets, including Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Management, Structural Equation Modeling, The Case Research Journal, and Financial and Marketing Education journals.
