Student Ambassadors

The mission of the Student Ambassador Program is to promote Portland State University. They represent the student experience for prospective students and their families. Ambassadors promote the diverse Portland State community to guests, administrators, faculty, staff, alumni, community partners, dignitaries, and friends of the University.

Student Ambassadors are students first and must be able to balance their academics with the demands of the program. The primary purpose of the program is to provide a leadership laboratory through which Student Ambassadors enhance and supplement their academic, communication, time management, and other professional skills.

Student Ambassadors play a pivotal role in the recruitment process of prospective students to Portland State. We ensure that the students learn not only about Portland State University, but also about the general benefits of higher education. As Student Ambassadors we strive to improve student success by acting as role models and sources of information for all students.

Request Student Ambassadors for Your Event

All requests must be at least 2 weeks prior to the event for which you are requesting their attendance. Any requests provided with within two weeks notice, may not be fulfilled.

Ambassadors are trained to be representatives of PSU and recruit potential students, staff, and faculty and are excellent minglers and greeters. They are knowledgeable about the campus and regularly give campus tours.

    Student Ambassadors work to recruit new students to our wonderful Portland State community. Ambassadors also work at professional events and large visit program dates. The Student Ambassador Programs offers opportunity for personal growth and leadership development through a variety of integrated campus tasks. Most importantly, Student Ambassadors represent the student experience at Portland State University and our diverse campus community.

    Sustainability Ambassadors are specially trained to give tours of PSU’s sustainability features and are kept up to date on sustainability initiatives on campus. Those features and initiatives include but are not limited to green buildings, recycling and waste infrastructure, social and cultural services, transportation alternatives, student initiatives, and campus gardens. Sustainability Ambassadors will work closely with the sustainability offices on campus to develop and deliver tours to a variety of constituents including current and prospective students, community groups, and sustainability professionals. In addition to regular Student Ambassador duities, this position will also have the opportunity to sit on committees, searches, and attend or lead workshops, in partnership with the Institute of Sustainable Solutions.
