Standard for Accessible Digital Design

Introduction

This standard defines the guidelines, training, and resources associated with designing accessible Public-facing Digital Resources by or on behalf of Portland State University (PSU).

Purpose and Applicability

PSU’s Digital Accessibility Policy establishes the requirement for developing accessible Digital Resources, in accordance with industry standards. This standard establishes requirements for ensuring the accessibility of any Public-facing Digital Resources created or developed by or on behalf of PSU.

Terms and Definitions

Digital Resources

Any electronic—HTML or non-HTML—resources that are used in the creation, conversion, maintenance, or duplication of data or information. Digital resources may include, but are not limited to:

  • applications
  • electronic documents
  • media
  • social media
  • software
  • websites
Public-facingAny University-sponsored or -sanctioned, externally facing Digital Resources that can be accessed without login.

Standards and Procedures

Creators and developers of Public-facing Digital Resources are responsible for ensuring that any Digital Resources designed by or on behalf of PSU are as accessible as possible in accordance with WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA Success Criterion, WAI-ARIA , and WAI-ARIA Authoring Practices.

Training and Resources

Creators and developers of Public-facing Digital Resources are responsible for equipping themselves with the necessary skills and knowledge to meet this standard. In addition to the criteria and practices listed above, creators and developers should reference all digital accessibility training and support resources located at go.pdx.edu/digital-accessibility.
