High Performance Computing (HPC) Clusters

SERVICE DESCRIPTION

The High Performance Computing (HPC) environment is a grant-purchased cluster of servers for use by PSU’s research community for computational analysis and machine learning.

Service details

OIT’s HPC clusters feature many computer cores, large amounts of memory, and large scratch (temporary) storage volumes suitable for computation and data processing. The HPC cluster is accessed through a batch queuing front-end and is typically used for highly parallel processing.

There are two service tiers:

  • Priority: Reserved/guaranteed access to complete compute jobs on the cluster. Billed per service unit, appropriate for grant-funded research with a budget for computing.
  • Free: Preemptable access, in which compute jobs may be paused arbitrarily, run slower than Priority users, possibly never start or never complete. Free users "wait in line" until Priority jobs complete. Free of charge, appropriate for testing, education, and research without a budget for computing.

Charges and Fees

Priority access costs $0.47 per service unit (equivalent to one standard compute node-hour or one GPU-hour)
