Zoom AI Features at PSU

The words "zoom" with a soundwave image behind it.

There has been a great deal of news coverage recently about an update that Zoom made to their terms and conditions regarding the use of generative AI in their product. Many campus partners have reached out to OIT and OAI concerned that Zoom intends to use their data on pdx.zoom.us to train their AI. We're writing today to address these questions and concerns, and provide further context.

Background

In March of 2023, Zoom updated its terms and conditions to include language that allows them to use client data to train their AI models. Since this update, Zoom has clarified that this only applies to those clients that pay for and use their AI product called Zoom IQ.

Effect on PSU

PSU's Educational plan does not include Zoom IQ, therefore none of the data created on or stored in our site (pdx.zoom.us) will be used to train their AI.

Keeping your data safe

To be confident that you're using Zoom under the terms of PSU's license agreement, be sure that you're logged into pdx.zoom.us before your meeting begins and that the meeting was created by someone who was logged into Zoom with their Odin account. This will ensure that all data created by the meeting is all being stored in our (AI-less) Zoom site.
