OIT Computer Labs are here for students this fall at PSU

Student working on computer in OIT Computer Lab

One of my favorite memories of PSU in the Fall, and one that’s remained consistent since I started as a student in 2002, is the hustle and bustle of the computer labs as people swing by to print off a quick syllabus before class, drop in to use a specific piece of software to complete a homework assignment, or even just horse around on the internet between classes.

All our lives have changed a lot since last Fall, but we in OIT have been working to make sure you still have access to the lab resources you’ve come to rely on, and even expand the ways in which you can use them.

We keep two labs open on campus, in the Library and the basement of FMH, where you can print, copy, and use computers much like you always have (with an added dose of safety precautions and social distancing, of course). You can use WebPrint to print from your own device, anywhere, and just stop at the lab printers to pick up your print without even having to log into a computer.

Even more exciting, though, is the new lab we opened this year: our Virtual Computer Lab, or VLAB. What’s so nice about the VLAB is that you can use it from practically anywhere and still get access to almost all the software you’d use in an on-campus lab, at any time of the day or night, and from any kind of computer.

We hope some of these new ways to access lab resources can help you as we try to balance keeping safe with getting you what you need to be successful.
