Research Data Storage

Enterprise network storage systems offer remote access and redundant systems to ensure you can access your data locally and remotely, and offer backups so that you can retrieve files in the case of accidental deletion.

A properly configured network share also typically offers greater security than a local storage device. While this alone does not ensure data security for compliance plans, the use of network shares can meet common technical requirements.

Increasingly, granting institutions such as the National Science Foundation and National Institute for Health are requiring data management and sharing plans. Network data storage with backups can be the key component of a data management plan. For more information about data management plans, the PSU Library offers a guide to managing research data.
