Climate Change and The New Geography of Tanzania

No longer accepting applications

This institute will explore Tanzania using a climate change lens. We will analyze recent climate trends to reveal the significant impact climate change will pose for Tanzania. Africa is predicted to endure 50% more warming from climate change than the rest of the world. In Tanzania, climate change scenarios across multiple general circulation models show increases in average mean temperatures of 1.3°C and 2.2°C projected by 2050 and 2100. In addition to higher temperatures, more flooding and droughts, and a rise in sea level threaten the livelihoods of millions of Tanzanians and the economic sectors of agricultural production, forests, water resources, coastal resources, human health, as well as energy, industry and transport.
