GIS Resources

GIS stands for Geographic Information Systems, which is a system for creating, editing, analyzing, storing, and visualizing geospatial data.  Geospatial data is around us every day -- whether you’re monitoring the weather or navigating a new neighborhood using Google Maps. Any data identifying a position or place on the earth is considered geospatial data.

ArcGIS

ArcGIS is the leading geographic information system (GIS) technology. Built by Esri, ArcGIS integrates and connects data through the context of geography. It provides world-leading capabilities for creating, managing, analyzing, mapping, and sharing all types of data.

Setting up ArcGIS for your school, a teacher's guide:
Learn how to order and set up ArcGIS for your school.

Teachers in Oregon do not need to work through the State. See the guidance:

  • If you are at different schools, you should each check this app https://storymaps.arcgis.com/collections/dbfd873bdc6f4d109ccb904c13230b9d?item=1to see whether your school already has an ArcGIS Online Org, and if not, then each of you can separately apply to the program for your school.
  • If there are multiple teachers present from your school, you should choose someone from your group to complete the application for your school.
  • If there are teachers from multiple schools in a single district, you can group together and work with your district to request a single shared organization. Esri encourages this, but it is not required.
