Professor, Coordinator MFA ART + Social Practice
M. Michelle Illuminato has expertise in establishing dynamic first-year art programs for young artists and designers and is recognized for her innovative teaching approach. She is currently shaping a new CORE program in the School of Art and Design and teaches graduate level pedagogy at Portland State.
In her art practice, she creates events, public exchanges and artworks to reveal the complex and often contradictory relationship between people, their culture and the land they inhabit. She works both individually and collaboratively on projects that have been exhibited nationally and internationally.
Illuminato is also currently an artist-in-residence at Little Bird Lab.
