Middle School STEM Program Assistant/Mentors

Job Description

The PSU Center for Entrepreneurship seeks a STEM Student Mentor to provide teaching and workshop Support. Reports to the Director of Student Innovation and will work with staff to assist with hands-on engineering activities for middle school students, inventory, and assets management related to the operation of the Center for Entrepreneurship programs. This position will specifically help the CE with commitments to the Verizon Innovation Learning camps. These programs include a tech-immersion summer camp for Middle School students plus year-round enrichment, pairing students with a mentor, proving hands-on experience in coding, robotics, augmented and virtual reality, 3D design and printing, and entrepreneurship.

Responsibilities:

  • Coach middle school students through camp activities
  • Add depth to the curriculum provided experiments and design challenges
  • Assist program teachers with student engagement, prepping curriculum, and hands-on
  • Assist CE staff with packing and shipping program assets to students
  • Reporting program issues, providing feedback, and gathering data for reports

Job Qualifications: 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel, familiarity with Canva, Asana
  • Must be conscientious, very detail-oriented, and a creative problem solver
  • Interests in Engineering, Elementary Education

Eligibility:

  • Must be a PSU student. Prefer sophomore, junior, senior standing, or graduate student
  • Maintain the minimum credit hours each term / be eligible to be a student employee
  • Available for a 3-week virtual camp August 2nd - 20th
  • Available one Saturday a month through May 2022

Hours and Rate:

  • 20 hours a week
  • Starting at $14.50 an hour (depending on experience)
