We are excited to introduce the First-Gen Student Action & Training Team, a dynamic group of student facilitators dedicated to raising awareness about the unique educational experiences of first-generation students at PSU. This student-led team will engage the campus community, particularly student services staff, by delivering student-centered, culturally responsive training on best practices for supporting first-generation students. Grounded in student voices, the team will design a curriculum that serves as the foundation for training, ultimately building a campus-wide network of certified liaisons. The First-Gen Student Action & Training Team will receive mentorship and guidance from Global Diversity and Inclusion to ensure their success in leading these important efforts. Get to know them below!
Reginelle Anderson
I am a first-generation college graduate and MBA student with a background in Media & Communication and Sociology. My experiences have shaped my passion for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, and I’m committed to applying human-centered approaches to both business and social innovation. Currently, I work as a youth care counselor, mentoring vulnerable teens and supporting them through a trauma-informed care approach. I’m originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and in my free time, I enjoy traveling to experience new cultures.
Ivan Cruz
Hello, my name is Ivan Cruz, and I am currently a sophomore at Portland State University, majoring in Psychology. This year, I will be serving as a Mentor for the Multicultural Retention Service. Of the four programs offered, I will be representing the NATIONS Program, which supports Indigenous students who are first-generation, low-income, or first-time students, as I will guide them to their journey at PSU this fall. If I could train any bird, I would train a Crow because they're cool and smart.
Michaela Loggins
As a proud first-generation college student, I’m honored to serve on Portland State University's First-Generation Task Force. Currently pursuing a degree in Communications and Black Studies, I understand the unique challenges of being the first in my family to attend college. I’m passionate about helping other first-gen students thrive by advocating for accessible resources and creating supportive spaces. Outside of my work, you can find me at Black Student Union events, the TRiO lounge, or the Rec Center.

In my freetime I like to go on hikes, reading, cooking, baking, and going to new places with my friends.
