Fall 2025 Greetings from PSU Board of Trustees

PSU Community,

Welcome to the new academic year! I'm honored to serve as your new Board Chair, and while I know that this year may be a challenge, I hope that we can all come together as we continue to support the students at Oregon’s Urban Research University. To our incredible students, staff, and faculty, thank you for making this university the vibrant community it is.

While the beginning of the term is full of gatherings, I want to remind everyone of the first full Board of Trustees meeting of the academic year, scheduled for Friday, September 26 at 9:00 a.m. This month’s meeting will include a discussion of PSU’s progress on the implementation of the Future in Focus strategic plan, an update on the impact of the PSU Foundation on the campus community, and an overview of the financial sustainability efforts outlined in the Bridge to the Future 2.0 plan. The agenda for the board meeting is available on the Board webpage. If you would like to join us in person, the meeting is in the Academic and Student Recreation Center (ASRC) Room 515 or you can join virtually.

On Thursday, ahead of the full board meeting, we will be hosting our committee meetings. During these meetings you can expect to learn more about the Plan for Institutional Vitality and Organizational Transformation (PIVOT) and other efforts being undertaken in the Office of Academic Affairs, learn more about some of the initiatives that I hope to lead as Board Chair around Board culture, effectiveness, and board governance. Lastly we will be learning more about the Bridge to the Future 2.0 plan which includes a revised operating budget for FY 2025-26.

Following the work of the former Board Chair Benjamin Berry, I plan to keep the tradition of communicating with all of you before and after each board meeting. These communications are one way to keep the campus informed about the Board's work. Additionally, one of my top priorities as the new Board Chair is making sure trustees engage with our campus community. With that, I invite you to reach out to trustees@pdx.edu to invite Trustees to an event or just share news with the Board.

As always, the Board webpage has various resources that you may find helpful, including the yearly calendar, meeting notices, meeting recordings, and other information.

Most importantly, I want to thank all of you as we come together over the upcoming year to support the continued effort to revitalize Portland State University and the City of Portland. Again, I enthusiastically welcome you to the new academic year — Go Viks!

Chair Antoinette Chandler
