2022-23 was full of experimentation, innovation, and dedication. At our annual awards ceremony, School of Architecture Director Juan Heredia awarded some of this year's outstanding students in acknowledgment of their successes and growth.

Here are the awards and recipients that were carefully selected for the 2023 end-of-year awards ceremony.

AIA Medal for Academic Excellence Program: Awarded to a graduating Master of Architecture student for exemplary overall academic performance. Congratulations, Anna Hollingsworth!

Alpha Rho Chi Bronze Medal: Awarded to a graduating Master of Architecture student for exemplary leadership, service, and professional merit, by faculty nomination. Congratulations, Nancy Pelayo Colores!

ARCC King Medal: Awarded to a Master of Architecture student by faculty nomination for innovation, integrity, and scholarship related to exceptional research work. Congratulations, Bryan Ortiz!

Thesis Prize: This graduate award is made based on faculty nominations for outstanding achievement in Masters Design Thesis. Congratulations, Naomi Hess!

George Nakashima Design/Build Award: In honor of George Nakashima, a world-renowned woodworker and builder. In collaboration with Mira Nakashima, this is awarded to an undergraduate or Master of Architecture student based on faculty nominations to recognize excellence in design/build practices. Congratulations, Aaron Mayers!

School of Architecture Design-build Award: Awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student based on a faculty nomination to recognize leadership and a high level of participation in full-scale design/build efforts. Congratulations, Maddy Capizzi!

Graduate Teaching Award: Awarded to a graduate student who has contributed to the culture and practice of teaching and learning within the school. Congratulations, Nyaz Addison!


Faculty Book Awards: Awarded to undergraduate and graduate students based on faculty nomination to recognize insatiable curiosity about architecture as reflected in studio work, class work, overall conduct, demeanor, and rapport within the School of Architecture.

Overall Achievement Awards: Awarded to one ARCH 300 level student and one ARCH 400 level student based on faculty nomination in recognition of excellence in architectural course achievements (including GPA) and individual contributions in support of school activities and community programs.
