As part of this year's citywide Portland Winter Light Festival, Portland State University joins up with Portland-based animation studio LAIKA to illuminate the creative process, whether in the College of the Arts' studios and rehearsal halls or behind the scenes at LAIKA.
PSU is collaborating with LAIKA to populate the South Park Blocks with glittering displays of artistry celebrating “all the little things” — the theme of this year’s festival — that go into the masterpieces created by the stop-motion artists of the celebrated film production company.
On the evenings of February 6, 7, 13, and 14, from 6pm to 10pm, look for never-before-seen LAIKA imagery in projected light displays on the windows of Smith Memorial Student Union and Simon Benson House (the latter designed by LAIKA faculty fellow Stephen Lee), and environmental light displays along the South Park Blocks. These sights will be complemented by a glowing tent where attendees can grab a warm cup of cocoa served by volunteers clad in costumes designed by LAIKA faculty fellow Alison Heryer.
The Portland Winter Light Festival remains family-friendly, accessible to all, and free of charge. So bundle up warmly and join in celebrating the illuminating power of light and the strength of the community.
