This Week’s Lecture:
Join us in exploring how landform architecture opens new possibilities for the relationship between natural systems and the built environment. By merging landscape and architecture, this approach blurs boundaries between past and present, interior and exterior, ground and underground, natural and artificial. It invites architects to design spaces that connect people, buildings, and nature in evolving, interconnected ways, creating living systems that adapt and transform over time.

About the Speaker:
Iryna Volynets is Ukrainian architect, landscape designer, and researcher whose work explores the intersection between architecture and landscape. She has currently completed her PhD in Landscape Architecture at the University of Oregon, where her research investigates how architectural form can be shaped by local processes.

Before coming to Oregon, Iryna led LANDFORMA studio, a practice focused on landform architecture, landscape, urbanism, and the integration of natural systems into the built environment. She is a Fulbright Faculty Development grantee, the author of Landform [in] Architecture, and the winner of the international competition for the National Memorial to the Heavenly Hundred Heroes in Kyiv, Ukraine.

What is Friday@1?
On most Fridays at 1 p.m. during the academic term, PSU School of Architecture students and faculty gather to hear from professional designers and architects, academics, visiting artists, innovators, and students in the program. Friday@1 is a perfect way to wrap up each week of intense creativity in the studio and get inspired for the productive weekend ahead.

Free and open to the public. All are welcome.
