PSU Mourns the Loss of Kevin Berg, Assistant Director of Online Program Management

Kevin Berg

Portland State University mourns the sudden loss of Kevin Guy Berg, Assistant Director of Online Program Management at the Office of Academic Innovation (OAI). On Sunday, March 20th, while hiking one of his favorite trails — the Tom McCall Point Trail in the Columbia Gorge — Kevin collapsed. He was accompanied and survived by his long-time, loving partner, Shelley Graf of Portland, OR.

The loss of Kevin Berg will be felt across campus and throughout the higher education community. Kevin championed PSU’s online programs, forming meaningful and lasting relationships across our university. His positive and enthusiastic approach to improving access to education is a testament to his passion for student success and contributes to a legacy of learner-centered practices at PSU.

Kevin was an exceptional and caring team member at OAI, quick to listen, to smile, and to laugh, making those near him feel warm and welcome. His infectious energy and curious heart and mind will be forever missed by his teammates.

In honor of Kevin’s passing, his family asks his friends, colleagues, and family to do what he loved most: take a nice walk in an open space to commune with nature. And in Kevin’s memory, individuals can also consider donating to one of his favorite nonprofits: The Oregon Shakespeare Festival and the Natural Resources Defense Council.

A virtual Celebration of Life will take place on April 23, 2022 at 5 p.m. More information about this event and Kevin’s life can be found on the Kevin Guy Berg Memorial page.
