Join the faculty book group this winter for our next read: The Empowered University! Sign up below and drop by our office before January 19th for your very own copy of the book. Over five meetings throughout winter term, participants will be discuss this practical and hopeful examination of how colleges and universities can create the best possible experience for students and faculty, with particular attention to the parallels they can draw to their own roles and experiences at PSU. We also hope participants will leave the group being able to articulate their own areas of empowerment and with concrete next steps in mind for building sustainable cultural change at PSU.

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED FOR WINTER

About The Empowered University:

In The Empowered University, Freeman Hrabowski and coauthors Philip J. Rous and Peter H. Henderson probe the way senior leaders, administrators, staff, faculty, and students facilitate academic success by cultivating an empowering institutional culture and broad leadership for innovation. The authors dig deeply into these tough issues in higher education ranging from course redesign to group-based and experiential learning, entrepreneurship and civic engagement, academic inclusion, and faculty diversity. Ultimately, The Empowered University is as much a case study of the authors' work as it is an examination of institutional change, inclusive excellence, and campus-community partnerships. Arguing that higher education can play a unique role in addressing the fundamental divisions in our society and economy by supporting individuals in reaching their full potential, the authors have developed a provocative guide for higher education leaders who want to promote healthy and productive campus communities.

Book Group Schedule:

Meeting are 12:00-1:00pm, on the following dates: 1/19,  2/2, 2/16, 3/1, and 3/15.
