Faculty Book Club: "The Promises & Perils of AI in Education"

This faculty book club will create space for conversation with colleagues about the ethical and equity considerations of artificial intelligence in higher education. Together, we will reflect on how emerging AI tools intersect with our commitments to inclusive teaching and consider what responsibilities we hold as educators in shaping their use. Space is capped at 12 participants, and each participant will receive a complimentary copy of the book.

About the book: “The Promises & Perils of AI in Education: Ethics & Equity Have Entered the Chat” by Dee Lanier and Ken Shelton

Meet your facilitator: Megan McFarland
Digital Inclusion & Universal Design Coordinator, Office of Academic Innovation
Megan earned a BA in English Composition from Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA and an M.Ed with concentrations in both Secondary Special Education and English Language Arts from Portland State University. After serving as an English Learning Specialist for Vancouver Public Schools, Megan was the director and curriculum designer for a national high school leadership education program. Most recently, she worked to build the academic branch of Portland State's Career & Community Studies Certificate Program for students with intellectual disabilities. She is also currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Special Education Leadership & Policy at Portland State.


Book club meeting schedule
The book club will meet remotely over the lunch hour 12:00PM - 1:00PM every two weeks throughout Fall term, on Oct 10, Oct 24, Nov 7, Nov 21, Dec 5. Once you have registered, you will receive a Google calendar invite for all meetings with the Zoom link.
