About the book: “More than Words: How to Think About Writing in the Age of AI” by John Warner
In More Than Words by John Warner, the focus begins with writing but quickly expands to a broader question relevant across disciplines: what kinds of thinking, learning, and human engagement do we actually want our assignments to foster? Warner argues that writing is not just a product but a process of thinking and meaning-making, and that the rise of AI offers an opportunity to reconsider how we design learning experiences.
Faculty from any field will find this book club useful for reflecting on how AI challenges traditional assignments, how students learn through intellectual struggle, and how we can design work that supports deeper learning in an AI-mediated world.
Book club meeting schedule
The book club will meet remotely over the lunch hour 12:00PM - 1:00PM every two weeks throughout spring term, on April 10, April 24, May 8, May 22, and June 5. Once you have registered, you will receive a Google calendar invite for all meetings with the Zoom link.
