Embodied Pedagogies

Friday February 6th 2026 12:10 PM - 1:30 PM

Are you looking for 1-2 small ways to welcome students into your course and acknowledge their lived experiences? Or maybe you are looking for opportunities to embed mindfulness into your workday. If so, please join this workshop, where University Studies' Neera Malhotra will facilitate a few mindfulness activities and then help us explore how we might implement these strategies in our specific departments and offices.

Meet your facilitator!

Neera Malhotra
Dr. Malhotra (she/they) is an embodied practitioner and facilitator with over 20 years of experience. Over eight years of somatic psychology research and practice, she has developed an educational model called the S.L.O.W. Presence, which supports understanding, healing, cultivating holistic presence, and addressing trauma. S.L.O.W. stands for Sensing, Listening to longings, Open-mindedness, and Wonderment. These are the four gateways to grow presence in the world. Her approach is grounded in co-creating contemplative healing spaces through a combination of modalities, including movement arts, silent sits, somatic practices, writing, and education on the neurobiology of trauma and healing.

Additionally, she has completed postdoctoral work in Interpersonal Neurobiology and Somatic Experience Practice (SEP), 300 hours of Yoga teacher training, and is trained as a Zen Chaplain. She teaches in the University Studies program and has a private practice offering somatic experiencing, somatic touch, and somatic narrative sessions for adults serving in human services, such as education, chaplaincy, and hospital settings.
