Eligible employees are encouraged to seek advice from independent tax and/or legal counsel regarding this RIO. Nothing in the RIO Program documents, FAQs, or other information provided by the University is to be construed as providing tax or legal advice to employees.

Key Dates

  • October 30, 2024: PSU sends the official program announcement by email to all tenured and continuously appointed faculty and provides this summary and all program documents by posting on the Office of Academic Affairs website.
  • December 18, 2024: Program closes – this is the last day for eligible faculty to submit their signed documents to OAA to participate in the RIO. 
  • March 15, 2025 or June 15, 2025: The final day of employment for 9-month employees.
  • March 31, 2025 or June 30, 2025: The final day of employment for 12-month employees.

Enrollment Instructions

  • On or before December 18, 2024 you must  submit the following to the Office of Academic Affairs, Academic Personnel by email at academicpersonnel@pdx.edu:
  • You may be asked for additional information to complete the evaluation of your application.
  • Once you have submitted your signed application and agreement, you will have seven (7) days to revoke your decision.
  • OAA and HR will confirm your eligibility to participate in the RIO and send a copy of the final executed agreement with all signatures to the employee, Dean of School or College, Department Chair/Relevant Supervisor, Office of Academic Affairs, and Human Resources partner.

Emeritus Application and Review Deadlines for those participating in the RIO Program

If you elect to retire through the RIO Program, you may seek emeritus status through University procedures if you are eligible under your departmental guidelines. Following are the extended deadlines so you may submit your dossier for review for promotion to emeritus.
