2025 Butler Award for Library Faculty Service Recipient

 

Michelle Desilets, is the Education and Science Librarian at Portland State University. Professor Desilets joined the faculty in 2018 and serves as the subject liaison to the College of Education and the departments of Biology and Psychology. Her research interests include information literacy instruction, student research practices, online teaching and learning, educational technology, and how topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion intersect with academic libraries. Desilets has presented and published on these topics, including her most recent co-authored article, “English as the Scholarly Language: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Implications for Academic Reference and Instruction Librarians” in The Library Quarterly: Information, Community, Policy.

Professor Desilets has worked in higher education for 15 years and she has more than 25 years of experience working in public libraries, special libraries, and academic libraries. Prior to her arrival at PSU, Desilets was a tenured associate professor in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. She holds a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Science in Educational Technology with a focus on inclusive instructional design from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Outside of the library, she enjoys reading, traveling, and appreciating nature through hiking and camping.
