NOW

I graduated with my Master of Speech and Hearing Sciences from PSU in Spring 2021 with a focus on working with adults in a medical setting. I now work in acute care at Kaiser Permanente, primarily with people who have dysphagia (swallowing disorders) and acquired communication disorders, such as aphasia and motor speech disorders.

THEN

What do you plan to do with your fluency in Russian?
I am currently undecided about my career, but I am very interested in joining a federal agency and using my Russian to serve my country.

What attracted you to the PSU Russian Flagship?
International politics and cultures fascinate me and I have always wanted to learn a new language. When I came across the Russian Flagship Program, it seemed perfect. Here, not only would a learn a new and practical language, but I would come out with the highest level of Russian possible and get to study abroad, something else that I have also always wanted to do.

What’s the best aspect of being in the PSU Russian Flagship?
The small class environment has been wonderful. You never feel overlooked as a student and everyone is very supportive of questions or concerns that you may have.

Why is fluency in Russian important to you?
If I am going to learn a language, I want to really learn it. Fluency is very important to me, both professionally and personally. The challenge appeals to me on a personal level and I am aiming to reach my goals. Professionally, being able to interact with Russian speakers is crucial, but I believe that knowledge of their culture and beliefs are just as important. We are studying an entire culture, not just a language.
