PSU Russian Flagship Alumni

Name: Jamie Cardenas

Honors and Awards: The Persia House Scholarship

What do you plan to do with your fluency in Russian? I would like to work for the federal government and, in doing so, I hope to establish strong international relationships between countries.

What attracted you to RFP? What attracted me to this program was the intensity of the classes. I feel like learning a language intensively will help me to develop a higher level of fluency in the language.

What’s the best aspect of being in RFP? The best aspects of the Flagship program are that we create a type of language community from years of knowing each other. We learn so much about the Russian culture because (let’s be honest) without learning the culture you haven’t learned the language. And lastly, the Flagship faculty and staff are available to you whenever you need help or advice.

Why is fluency in Russian important to you? Fluency in Russian is important to me because I want to be able to have complex conversations with the Russian community and, of course, through language comes the opportunity to learn more about the culture.
