THEN:

What do you plan to do with your fluency in Russian?
The world is flat! The opportunity to use 2nd and 3rd languages at a proficient level, in my opinion, is an asset that can be applied in virtually any career path. During the last 10 years, I used Russian every day to communicate with my colleagues and co-workers at the US Embassy in Moscow for the Regional Security Office or to attract Russian-speaking clients to originate new mortgage loans with my employer. The Russian language allows me to help my customers and be an effective worker in the world economy.

What attracted you to RFP?
The direct interaction with the faculty, support, and opportunity for scholarships are some of the best that I’ve experienced in my college career.

What’s the best aspect of being in RFP?
For me, the best aspect of RFP is the eclectic collection of student colleagues, which include military, aspiring federal employees, linguists, educators, artists, Peace Corp workers, and business-minded individuals. Knowing that we share the camaraderie of a high level of proficiency gives me confidence that I will have a strong network throughout the world.

Why is fluency in Russian important to you?
I chose Russian because of the challenge and the fact that Russia was America's #1 rival for most of my youth. I wanted to do something exciting. Now the personal achievement and satisfaction of mastering a language, as much as a foreign-born person can, is within my grasp. That is a thrilling feeling.
