Scholarships and Funding for History Students

Our department offers a number of scholarships and grants to financially support both our undergraduate and graduate students.

Application deadlines for these occur at varying points throughout the year. Consult the links below for application forms and more information.

Graduate Scholarships

Fulton-Dodds Fellowships (see application for deadline)

Fellowships of up to $1,000 are available to current MA students who have completed 21 credits of coursework with a 3.5 GPA.

Joel Palmer Fellowships (see application for deadline)

For current MA students in Northwest history. Fellowships of up to $1,000 available to those with a GPA of 3.5 after 21 credits.

Lauren Banasky Research Grants (Deadlines: Oct 1, Mar 1)

This grant reimburses qualified MA students in European or women's history for research-related expenses, including travel.

Stephanie Oliver Graduate Award (Deadlines: Sep 1, Nov 1, Mar 1, Jun 1)

Intended to help MA students pay for tuition in the final term of their program.

Undergraduate Scholarships/Funding

Barney Burke Scholarships (Deadline: Nov 1)

These scholarships, of up to $500, are available to declared History majors with a minimum 3.5 GPA in History courses.

Hardship Funds

History students experiencing financial hardship should contact Carol Gabrielli, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, at cg@pdx.edu.

Internship and Professionalization Scholarships

History students who secure qualifying internships or pursue other professionalization activities may be eligible to receive up to $2000 in scholarship support. Contact hist@pdx.edu for more information.
