Twenty-four Vietnamese students studying at Portland State University for the past two years as part of the Intel Vietnam Scholars (IVS) Program were among the 6000+ PSU students that graduated on June 17.
The students were chosen by Intel and PSU through a highly competitive selection process to participate in the special program, in which Intel sponsors a select group of students from six partner universities in Vietnam to complete their Bachelor of Science degrees at PSU. The graduating students were part of Cohort 2, which came to PSU in the summer of 2010. The Cohort 2 students will now return to Vietnam to work for Intel at its plant in Ho Chi Minh City, joining the first cohort of IVS students that graduated in June 2011. IVS Cohort 3 will arrive at PSU in early August.
Twenty-two of the twenty-four graduating IVS students received a Bachelor of Science degree in either Electrical or Mechanical and Materials Engineering while the two remaining students received degrees in Business Administration, Supply and Logistics Management.
The students had many wonderful and memorable moments during the two years they studied at Portland State, including experiencing snow for the first time while skiing on Mount Hood, and many say they hope to return one day to Portland. Four of the Electrical Engineering students were even part of a team that won a national competition in May at Disney World in Florida for creating a prescription drug identification device, placing ahead of teams from the University of Pennsylvania and MIT.
Congratulations and good luck to Cohort 2 IVS students as they embark on exciting new careers for Intel Vietnam!
