The Paul Croy Environmental Scholarship

Named for a western educator and poet, the Paul Croy Environmental Scholarship was established to provide support to Undergraduate students who are pursuing academic and career goals related to preservation of the environment. This will be awarded to an outstanding student with career interests in the social and policy aspects of environmental protection and management.

Amount: The amount for this award is $500 and will be awarded in the Fall 2025 term.

Eligibility:

  • Environmental Science and Environmental Studies students are both encouraged to apply.
  • You must be a junior or senior full-time student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to apply. 
  • You must be an enrolled student in Fall 2025 (students who graduate Spring 2025 or Summer 2025 are not eligible).

The Barry Commoner Environmental Scholarship

Dr. Commoner is an internationally known environmental scientist, founder of the Center for the Biology of Natural Systems at Queen’s College, and a former candidate for president of the United States. The Barry Commoner Environmental Scholarship was established to provide support to undergraduate students with academic and career interests in environmental science.

Amount: The amount for this award is $500 and will be awarded in the Fall 2025 term.

Eligibility:

  • Environmental Science and Environmental Studies students are both encouraged to apply.
  • You must be a junior or senior full-time student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to apply. 
  • You must be an enrolled student in Fall 2025 (students who graduate Spring 2025 or Summer 2025 are not eligible).

The David Dunnette Travel Award

Professor David Dunnette was one of the founding members of the department. An endowment was established in his memory to support ESM graduate student travel to present their research at meetings

Amount: One award will be given each year.

Edward D. and Olive C. Bushby Scholarship

The Bushby family established an endowment for the support of outstanding graduate and undergraduate students in the Department of Environmental Science and Management that have financial need

Amount: Applicants may request up to $2,000. The scholarship will be awarded in the Fall 2025 term.

The ESM Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship will provide students with much needed support for tuition, travel, books and supplies. The ESM Endowed Scholarship fund (called the ESM Scholarship Quasi-Endowment on the online giving page) has a goal of raising $25,000 in 5 years. Dr. John Rueter, an established ESM faculty, has pledged $5,000 to get the fund started. 

This fund is not currently granting awards.
