The Things She Carried: A Cultural History of the Purse in America explores how the seemingly ordinary object of a purse reveals rich, textured stories about gender, sexuality, and race.

Dr. Casey will discuss how purses offered generations of Americans — from immigrant factory workers to civil rights activists and LGBTQ folks — a source of privacy and power.
