Presidential Awards

The Presidential Awards are given to students who have excelled during their time at PSU. The award categories are: academic achievement, community engagement, and university service. These awards are for all students, not just students who are graduating.

Student Eligibility 

To be eligible for consideration, a student must:

  • Be fully admitted in a degree program at the undergraduate, master's, or doctoral level
  • Have attended PSU for at least three academic quarters
  • Be currently enrolled at PSU, or have been enrolled during the 2017-2018 academic year
  • Have a PSU GPA of 3.0 or higher for the level being considered (undergraduate, master's, or doctoral)

All faculty and staff are invited to submit nominations for the awards. The final selection is made by the General Student Affairs Committee based on the eligibility and award criteria listed below. In all cases, accomplishments from other institutions, or while a student was at a different academic level, will not be considered. 

Award Criteria

Academic Achievement

  • Challenge and rigor of coursework
  • Pursuit of research and/or scholarly projects
    • As appropriate to the student's academic level, these projects may reach beyond the student's courses into the academic or non-academic community. For master's/doctoral students, this could include theses and dissertations, lab work, creative work, public talks, publications, and/or conference presentations.
  • Ambition and intellectual curiosity

A copy of a student's unofficial transcript will be provided to the committee as part of the review process for the academic achievement award. 

Community Engagement 

  • Participation, initiative and leadership in many off-campus community engagement activities
  • Participation, initiative and leadership in planning and execution of engagement activites  
  • Engagement could be educational, cultural and/or humanitarian in nature

University Service

  • Involvement, initiative and leadership in many activities that benefited and enhanced PSU students' experiences. This could include frequent volunteering on campus, being a student leader, working closely with a department to improve the student experience, etc.
