All participants in Student Media are expected to abide by:

  • Federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Portland State University's institutional policies, including SALP Policies and the Code of Conduct.
  • The policies of the student media organizations in which they participate.
  • High ethical standards.

Violation of these expectations may result in:

  • Internal review and discipline by the student organization.
  • A Code of Conduct review through the Dean of Student Life office.
  • A Community Standards review through Student Activities and Leadership Programs.
  • Additionally, individuals may be suspended or barred from participation in Student Media.
  • In the most severe cases, a group may have its status as a university-recognized organization revoked by the Student Media Board.

Please note that while the Student Media Board appoints the head of each media organization, other leadership roles within an organization are appointed by the editor or manager of the group and serve at the will of the editor or manager. As such, there is no guarantee that a student appointed to a leadership role will stay in that role for a specified period of time. Receiving and keeping an ELSA each term is contingent upon staying in the role to a degree sufficient to meet the term’s basic obligations.
